SYDNEY,
20 October 2003 – Observing the benefits of sea
water on certain respiratory infections led scientists at the Saint-Malo research
centre in the northern coast of Brittany, France, to study and analyse the properties
of seawater. Research showed that sea water had the power to remove particles
such as dust, pollen, bacteria trapped in the mucus of the nasal fossae. While the
exact mechanism remains unknown, it was clear from experiments that the many minerals
and trace elements present in sea water played a key role in this result and not
just the salt. From 92 simple elements that exist in nature, 60 have been identified
in sea water, with concentration varying according to the site and depth of where
the water is collected. They set
about developing a sea water derivative, a sea serum, which maintained all the
richness of sea water in minerals and trace elements but was adapted to the delicate
physiology of the human nose, namely, had the same salt content as human blood
(sea water has three times more salt than human blood). Such a sea serum had also
to be sterile (even after first use) and free of preservatives
or propellants which could damage the sensitive nasal mucosa. The sea serum developed in the course of this research (brand named ‘PHYSIOMER®’) showed remarkable power to fight allergies and other complications, decongesting and helping to prevent infections in the sinuses and ear canals. These results have been confirmed by numerous clinical studies by scientists and medical professionals al over the world. PHYSIOMER®
was also shown to accelerate the recovery process after nose surgery1 and reduce by half the duration of antibiotic
treatment in bacterial acute sinusitis2.
Today PHYSIOMER
is available in dozens of countries and is used routinely by surgeons in post-operative
situations, as well as by patients for allergy prevention, treatment and daily
nasal hygiene. PHYSIOMER®
has two major therapeutic effects: (1) an active effect linked to its eutrophic
properties on nasal mucosa; (2) a dynamic effect thanks to its adjustable directional
jet. Doctors
and pharmacists recommend PHYSIOMER®
for: PHYSIOMER® is supplied as a nasal spray of sea serum which preserves all the richness of sea water in minerals and trace elements, but is also sterile, undiluted, has the same salt content as human blood (isotonic) and a neutral pH to make it gentle to the nasal mucosa. PHYSIOMER® does not contain any preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride. PHYSIOMER’s also has an anatomic nozzle, adapted to the shape and size of the human nose. Some other products currently in the market contain steroids and other chemicals, which, while serving a purpose, may be additive and lose their effectiveness over the long term. In addition, they cannot be used by infants, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people with hypertension and heart disease.
PHYSIOMER® comes in 3 jet strengths (colour coded for instant recognition) to ensure that it is suitable for use by everybody from the smallest baby to an elderly person: Baby Spray, Gentle Jet and Strong Jet.
PHYSIOMER®
Baby Spray is recommended for babies and infants
from 2 weeks old. PHYSIOMER®
Gentle Jet is recommended
for adults and children over 2 years old. PHYSIOMER®
Strong Jet is recommended
for adults and post-surgical uses. PHYSIOMER®
is a medical device approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration.
PHYSIOMER®
is already present in dozens of countries around the world. It will be available
from Pharmacies across Australia from November 2003. Baby Spray and Gentle Jet
are expected to retail for app. $15.95 and the Strong Jet for $17.25. More information
will soon be available at www.physiomer.com.au. PHYSIOMER®
is a product of Laboratories Goemar (www.goemar.com) , a European pharmaceutical
research company specialised in applications of sea water and sea weeds to human
health. PHYSIOMER® will be distributed in Australia by Aurora Pharmaceuticals (www.aurorapharm.com), an Australian pharmaceutical company specialised in dermatology. Aurora's aim is to increase the health and quality of life of Australian people by bringing to Australia innovative, cost-effective products that address previously unresolved and debilitating medical conditions. 1.
